What is UpLift?

UpLift is a fitness app designed to get people up and moving while stuck at home. The app utilizes an “avatar” system to motivate users. When an exercise is complete, users earn medals that they can spend on new clothes, items, and games to play with their avatar.

Users need an app that can motivate them to workout daily. I am targeting those who work from home or who don’t have the time to go to the gym.

Problem

Goal

Develop an exercise app that motivates users into an exercise routine that suits their level, schedule, and interests.

Project Scale

1 month

Tools Used

Figma, LucidChart

Role

UI Designer

I created this project for my UI specialization course at CareerFoundry. The app is only in the prototyping stage and only the core screens have been fully fleshed out.

My Starting Process

With the project brief in hand, I already have access to my user persona, user stories, feature requirements, and branding guidelines. Time for ideation.

Future Iterations

If I were to continue this project in the future I would:

  • Conduct usability testing to confirm/disprove my design decisions and then reiterate based on my findings.

  • Add in screens that I haven’t fleshed out yet for the mobile, tablet, and desktop breakpoints. For example: the avatar store, settings, and error pages.

  • I would like to explore motion design more, since it would be fitting for an app that wants to get users moving.

Retrospective

This project allowed me to practice skills that I don’t use too often, like motion design (for example: the loading animation). The majority of work that I’ve done in the past is for print - which is very flat and has no movement to it. Being able to experiment with how each screen flows to the next and adding in some movement really brought life to the build. Motion will definitely become a huge focus of mine in future projects.
